Financial Assistance

2023 - 2024 MVI Maverick Hockey Financial Aid Policy

  • The purpose of our financial aid program is to make hockey more affordable. Available options include reduced-price hockey and/or an extended payment schedule.

  • The Maverick Scholarship fund is the result of the generous contributions of the Josh Lavalle Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Michael Hope Memorial Fund, and the Mounds View Irondale Hockey Foundation.

  • Available funds for financial aid are established by the MVI budget for the current season. Applicant aid will be awarded based on confirmed eligibility for financial support from other organizations, including but not limited to the State of Minnesota, County of Residence, the US Government, etc.

  • Supporting documentation confirming eligibility will be required as part of the application process.  Acceptable documentation includes the “Free and Reduced Price Meals Application" approval letter from the attending school district for the current hockey season and school year.

  • Acceptable alternatives to the FRPL form are available and are listed within the financial aid application.

    • (within financial aid application) An applicant may also consider providing supporting documentation from the following programs (not a complete list): EBT, Diversionary Work Program (DWP), EAP, WAP, MFIP, Medical Assistance, MNSure, MNCare, SNAP, SSDI, Food Stamps, or Food Support.

  • Aid eligibility will be determined solely based on confirmed documentation of financial need. Families with financial challenges during the season due to job loss may qualify for MVI Financial aid if they qualify for unemployment benefits.

Conditions of receiving aid:

  • Each MVI family must complete the required volunteer hours as detailed by the association.  If a family is awarded financial aid from MVI and doesn’t meet the required volunteer hours for that season, they will not be eligible for financial aid in the following season.

  • Approved recipients of financial aid in any form or amount from MVI will not be eligible for receipt of any team refund at the end of the season.

  • MVI remains willing to work with families to structure outstanding payments, and there is no due date for those discussions.

  • Pre-Season application due: Aug 31, 2023
