MVI Coach Registration Steps 2025 - 2026

STEP 1: Complete USA Hockey Registration

Continue to the USA Hockey Registration site and register as a Coach. The registration for USA Hockey requires a $46.00 and a $1.00 MN Hockey fee. The USA/MN hockey registration fee will be reimbursed. Use your own credit card for your registration fee and email receipt to:  MVIYHA Treasurer: treasurer@mvihockey.org

PLEASE NOTE: You must be on a team roster to be reimbursed.

You will need to enter the USA Hockey Confirmation Code for the below steps.

STEP 2: MVI Youth Hockey Coach Registration

Follow the '2025-2026 MVI Coach Registration' link below to register with MVI Youth Hockey.

STEP 3: Complete CEP Level Course

All Coaches need the required certification by January 1. All coaches must enter USA Hockey’s Coaching Education Program at the 6U/8U level if coaching Learn To Skate, Learn To Play, and/or 6U/8U team or a Level 1 clinic if they are coaching 10U team and above.

Coaches at the 6U/8U must take the 6U/8U refresher education every five years if they are continuing to coach at 6U/8U classification or LTS/LTP.

Coaches in 6U/8U should not take Level 1 until they start coaching at the 10U classification and above level.

If coaching 10U team or above, coaches must continue their education with a coaching clinic each year, until Level 4 which is valid for 3 seasons, and level 5 which is valid for 4 seasons. Levels 4 and 5 also are eligible to complete 5 CE credits.

Special note on 6U/8U coaching CEP:

Coaches who received a Level 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 PRIOR to January 1, 2025 and who are coaching after this date, may coach at the 6U/8U classification or LTS/LTP classification with their current level, even if expired.

If a 6U/8U coach takes a higher level of education after January 1, 2025 they are no longer grandfathered in at the 6U/8U level and must remain current in education regardless of what age classification they are coaching.

CEP training must be completed before December 31. If your CEP expires on December 31, 2025 and you have not taken the next level, you will not be allowed to coach starting January 1, 2026.

CEP classes are listed on USA Hockey site. CLASSES WILL FILL UP!! Please register and complete CEP requirements as soon as you are able.

Further CEP details and a helpful flow chart are also available on MVI Coaches/CEP page.

STEP 4: Complete the SafeSport training.

The SafeSport Training and Refresher Training are each valid for one (1) season beginning on 4/1/20.  Requires login to USA Hockey, and link to training will be accessible when your prior SafeSport Training is close to expiration/expired.

STEP 5: Complete the Background Screening

Background screening on coaches will be good for two years. If you did not fill out the screening last season you must do it for the 2025-2026 Season.

STEP 6: Complete Age Specific Online Module.

You must complete each module PRIOR to participating with your team or being placed on a roster. You do not have to repeat modules each year. Example: If you did Peewee last year and are coaching at Peewee this year.

STEP 7: Complete Concussion Training.

Concussion Training is to be completed every two years.  If you completed the training for another sport (i.e. soccer) that will also cover hockey.
